**Out-of-State Non-Enforceable Process: As of April 15, 2008 The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office does not serve out-of-state non-enforceable process. You must contact a private process server. The exception to this will be the service of Injunctions for Protection, or other Emergency Orders against Domestic Violence, that are signed by a judge.
The Sheriff’s Office Civil Division also enforces Levies and Writs of Attachment and conducts Sheriff's sales to aid in the collection of money judgments.
Please note that the Civil Division does not provide legal advice or assist in the preparation of documents.
Each year, the Sheriff’s Office Civil Division processes and serves more than 6,000 court documents. The Civil Division utilizes a blue door hanger to assist in notifying persons to be served that they have a court document for service. Once a deputy determines that the person to be served is not at home, the deputy will place the blue hanger on the door. Included on the hanger is the Civil Division contact information so that an appointment can be set up. Many times due to work and travel special arrangements have to be made in order to affect service. The Civil Division is more than happy to assist residents in coordinating schedules to make this happen.
