What is the Communications Center?
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office Communications Division is comprised of 15 communications officers, 3 Call-Takers, and 2 Part-time Positions who staff the Communications Center twenty-four hours per day seven days per week. Normally, there are three (3) Communications Officers on duty for every shift.
The Communications Center is the Public Safety Answering Point for all 9-1-1 calls initiated within Sumter County, with the exception of the City of Wildwood. The Communications Center receives and processes calls for law enforcement, fire or medical assistance and dispatches the appropriate public safety agencies. The Communications Center is a partnership among various governmental entities and public safety organizations, and provides communications services for the following agencies:
- Sumter County Sheriff's Office
- Sumter County Fire Rescue
- Sumter County Animal Control
- City of Bushnell Police Department
- City of Center Hill Police Department
- City of Coleman Police Department
- City of Webster Police Department
When to call 9-1-1:
- 9-1-1 is for law enforcement, fire or medical emergencies only….whenever an IMMEDIATE response is required.
- If you are unsure how serious a situation is, call 911. There is no fee or cost for placing a call to 911, so do not hesitate to use it for emergencies.
When to call the Non-Emergency Number

- If you DO NOT NEED AN IMMEDIATE RESPONSE to a law enforcement, fire or medical emergency, please call the non-emergency number at 352-793-2621 option 1.
- Using the non-emergency number of 352-793-2621 option 1 helps keep the 911 lines available for persons reporting emergencies.
