Sumter County Emergency Management

Much has been accomplished under the direction of
Sheriff Bill Farmer. A totally revitalized old Health Dept. is now the new Emergency Operations Center. With a modern center, a large classroom, a radio room, and modern office for the Emergency Management Director and his staff.

Safeguarding the life and property of its citizens is an innate responsibility of the governing body of the government.  Under Chapter 252 of the Florida Statutes, each county must establish and maintain an emergency management agency.  In 1995, a full time director was hired and the Sumter County Emergency Management Department was established.
