Sumter County Shelters
Occasionally the time arises that you may need to evacuate your home to go to a safer place. Here at Emergency Management we strive to ensure that there are enough shelters to accommodate those who need sheltering. We have several locations around Sumter County.
Hurricane shelters will be available for people who have no other place to go. The best options for our citizens are to go to a relative or friend’s site built home or leave the area. If you have no choice but to go to a shelter, do not leave your home until officials announce that the shelter is open. Information about shelters that are open in your area will be available through newspapers, television, radio, and Emergency Management. Locations can change quickly, so stay informed.
Please bring your own chairs, bedding, food, water and prescription drugs with you to shelters. Do not bring pets (unless the shelter is specified as a pet-friendly shelter), weapons, alcohol or illegal drugs.
Please remember to check before proceeding to a shelter. Not all Shelters are opened during an event.
