Sumter County Florida Sheriff's Office

Special Needs Information

Persons with special needs are encouraged to submit a special needs registration form to Emergency Management. When Emergency Management receives the form it is evaluated by the guidelines set by the Sumter County Department of Health.

A person that may need medical assistance by his or her caregiver may be assigned to one of the special needs shelters in Sumter County. Resident that live north of Highway 470, including Lake Panasoffkee, are in the zone for Arbor Village Nursing Rehab Center in Wildwood. Addresses south of Highway 470, including Sumterville, are in the zone for Osprey Point Nursing Center.

Unless there is a significant medical condition, most individuals on oxygen will be encouraged to make plans to go to the Wildwood Community Center or South Sumter High School. While all general population shelters will accept oxygen, these two shelters have a back up power supply.
