Inmate Mail and e-messaging
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office contracts with Securus Technologies, which involves kiosks and tablets in housing units for inmates to use to send and receive written communications with loved ones. This digital mail system further streamlines SCSO operations and ensures the safety and well-being of inmates and staff, for a nominal fee.
To set up your Securus Technologies account:
One option that the Sumter County Detention Center offers to contact an incarcerated loved one is the the e-messaging through Securus Technologies for quicker and more convenient communication. eMessaging allows family and friends to communicate with an incarcerated loved one using email like messaging.
With eMessaging you can:
- Send an electronic message
- Attach up to 5 photos
- Share up to 5 eCards
- Send just a photo with our Snap n’ Send TM (Mobile app only)
- Receive an inmate reply if you prepay
How it works:
You must have a Securus Online account and login to use eMessaging. Messages are sent and received from your eMessaging inbox from this website or on the Securus mobile app. eMessages are paid for by purchasing a book of ‘stamps’. Find your inmate, purchase a book of stamps and start writing your message.
All message and photos are subject to review by the facility. If a message or photos are rejected or the inmate reply is rejected you will receive a reject message in your inbox with the reason for the rejection. Stamps are not refunded if a message or photo is rejected. The chart below explains how many stamps are required:
For example: If you want to send your incarcerated loved one an e-message, it will cost one (1) stamp. If you want to send them an e-message and allow them to respond, it will cost 2 stamps. One (1) stamp for sending them the e-message and one (1) stamp for them to respond.
If you want to send them an e-message, allow them to respond, and include one picture, it will cost 3 stamps. You can send up to five photos or ecards per e-message. Each photo or ecard that you attach to the e-message, will cost an additional stamp.
If postal mail is your only option, you may send post cards or pictures to the following address:
