Crisis Intervention Team
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office Crisis Intervention Team is comprised of 8 members from various areas of the Sheriff's Office that have undergone FDLE approved training in Hostage Negotiations.
Where there is a crisis situation in Sumter County actively involving a criminal, domestic, or mental health incident the team deploys. This includes responding to calls involving suicidal individuals, armed or barricaded individuals and situations where hostages have been taken. The team's goal is to defuse these crisis situations utilizing tactics such verbal crisis management techniques in an attempt to save lives and mitigate the crisis all while attempting to limit the risk to officer, civilians, victims and the subject.
