BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This is a responsible position transcribing police reports, data entry of hard-copy police reports, and entry of UCR data into a
computer program. Requires above average data entry and
use of grammar and spelling skills, plus knowledge of basic
A. Receive police reports and tracking information pertaining to warrants via telephone and enter information into the computer program, using proper coding and/or data abbreviations.
B. Classify data for UCR according to UCR guidelines.
C. Enter hard-copy reports into the computer program.
D. Enter or retrieve information from computer as required.
E. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of entry and removal of records information involved with Sumter County Sheriff's Office computer program.
F. Be alert for conditions or situations which inhibit efficient operation of the Agency or the S.T.A.R. Division, and make recommendations for solutions.
G. Perform any additional duties that may be required by the Sheriff or through necessity of situations.
High school diploma or GED.
Transcribe a minimum of 45 words per minute accurately.
Proficiency in English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Ability to follow instructions with a minimum amount of supervision.
Possess normal sight and hearing abilities.
Ability to organize own work.
Ability to perform general office skills well.
Ability to handle confidential matters without compromising confidentiality.
Ability to work harmoniously with the public and Agency personnel.
Maintain complete FCIC teletype certification.
Obtain working knowledge of UCR and computer codes.
Obtain basic knowledge of criminal and civil law sufficient to perform required duties.
Maintain and possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
Normal office environment. Majority of time is spent performing data entry into a computer program. Hours require both day and night shifts, as scheduled, including holidays and weekends. May require overtime when necessary. Subject to call to duty at any time.
